A radical shake up of parking across the town is in the pipeline.

And people who want to object to the far reaching changes only have until Sunday (October 21) to voice their concerns.

The changes, if given the go ahead, will see more parking regulations in Meads, Hampden Park and the town centre, more pay and display bays, additional time limited parking and meters, more permit holder only bays and an increase in yellow double lines.

East Sussex County Council, which operates the town’s controversial parking regime and is bringing in the changes, says it is reacting to requests from residents, visitors and shopkeepers.

But opponents say the proposals are causing anger and dismay among residents and businesses and are calling for changes.

They say people who asked for changes haven’t got them and those that didn’t have been landed with unpopular restrictions.

A final decision will be made by East Sussex County Council in January and changes would be introduced in early spring.
