Thumbs up for radio station

Seahaven FM's first broadcast came to a close recently but the team behind the scenes are keen to get a full-time licence.

The station was on air for around 28 days, following the hard work and dedication of a group of men.

Nick Mallinson's dream of bringing news, music and programmes to the airwaves gained interest following a discussion with three other businessmen at Seaford and Newhaven's Chamber of Commerce breakfast meeting.

The first broadcast then aired at the beginning of March and the station has enjoyed a huge amount of support from the local community.

Seaford MP Norman Baker presented a Sunday morning show of jazz and blues and the aim of the station was to be genuinely local for Seaford residents and the surrounding areas.

A second broadcast is planned for August but in the meantime Nick is keen to get a full-time Community Radio Licence.

A public meeting was held on Sunday to discuss the future of the station.

Despite the bad weather conditions around 40 people turned up at the Downs Leisure Centre to give feedback.

Mr Mallinson said, "We were really trying to find out what our listeners thought about the station and that sort of thing. We are now going for our full-time licence and trying to muster some support and have asked people if they will write to us if they enjoyed the station or have suggestions on things that they would like to see changed or improved.

"We didn't get any bad comments and lots of people can't wait for it to come back in the autumn."

Mr Baker was not at Sunday's meeting but said he was grateful for being able to have a slot on the show and that the idea for a local station for Seaford was a positive move.
