The Sunshine Carnival will be back next year

The Eastbourne Sunshine Carnival, which returned this year after a gap of 15 years, is set to become a permanent fixture in the town’s events calendar.

The date for 2013 will be May 25, and the route will again be from Fisherman’s Green to the Western Lawns. An earlier start time of 4pm has also been agreed.
Pageant Master David Cooper said, “I am so pleased that the local community and Eastbourne Borough Council have pledged their support for the Carnival again.

“This year’s Carnival came about as a result of a lot of hard work by so many people especially those that entered floats and got into the spirit of the event.

“I am also thrilled that Stephen Lloyd has expressed his confidence in me to take the event forward for another year.”
Stephen Lloyd MP added, “I was absolutely delighted at the return of the Carnival to Eastbourne.

“The way our town responded this year with 25,000 people lining the route, the fantastic support they gave the 1,800 participants, and the generosity of local residents in donating to our many bucket collectors; it all showed just how glad Eastbourne was to have its Sunshine Carnival back.
“The team are absolutely determined to do what it takes to become the best known and best attended carnival across the whole of the South of England.

“Along with Airborne and our other superb events calendar, we are putting Eastbourne on the map.

“Roll on May 25 2013. It’s Carnival Time!”

Thousands of people lined the seafront to watch the carnival’s comeback this summer. More than 50 floats and 1,500 walking entries took part in the parade.
