THE DUKE of Devonshire has become the patron of an Eastbourne charity run for people with learning difficulties.
He has just been appointed the head of Eastbourne & District Mencap and recently visited the charity’s two residential homes Sedgemoor and Framley in Old Town.
Accompanied by the Duchess during his visit, the Duke said, “I am delighted to become patron of Eastbourne Mencap. I know how important this local group is for the people in Eastbourne. We are most impressed by everything we saw and heard during such an inspiring visit.
“I am sure the plans to refurbish Sedgemoor and Framley will bring benefits to very many people in Eastbourne.”
David Long, chairman of Eastbourne Mencap, said he was pleased that the Duke of Devonshire was heading up the charity’s team of supporters.
“We are honoured with the Duke’s formal commitment to us. It will help raise our profile and spearhead our fundraising efforts,” he said.
Eastbourne Mencap is a local independently run charity for the community of Eastbourne. It is currently aiming to raise £3million for the refurbishment and upgrade of its Sedgemoor and Framley residential homes in Eastbourne.
The charity provides a range of services from residential care to day-care opportunities, as well as family services, to more than 100 members.
