The brazen armed robber who fled with cash from Eastbourne bookies

editorial image

THIS is the cocky face of the man who police believe is responsible for three armed robberies at bookmakers in Eastbourne.

The photo was taken from a CCTV camera at Ladbrokes in Seaside this morning (Wednesday).

The timeline on the CCTV film says 9.20am as the coloured man, smartly dressed in a suit and tie, wearing a coat, scarf and a hat, loiters at the front of the shop with two women in the background chatting at a counter. A man is sitting watching the TV screens, all oblivious to the drama which was about to unfold.

In a brazen robbery, a man walked to the till with what appeared to be a gun and demanded money from the cashier. He then escaped with the cash, although police are not saying how much money was stolen. No shots were fired and no-one was injured.

Sussex Police are linking this latest robbery with two previous attacks on Ladbrokes bookmakers in the town on December 3 and 20 when quantities of cash were taken.

On December 3, the robber approached an employee at the till in Ladbrokes in Seaside also just after 9am to place a bet. But as the assistant was processing the bet, the man apparently pulled out a gun and pointed at him. There are reports that he stole nearly £1,500 in cash from the shop.

Ladbrokes have posted a reward of £10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the robber.

The area in Seaside was cordoned off this morning while police continued their investigation.
