Teens to brighten up town’s empty shops

The Towner gallery is hosting a two days of free half-term art workshops for teenagers.

In addition to offering great fun and enjoyment for the participants the workshops will also o produce exciting urban art displays designed to brighten up empty shop windows in Eastbourne..

‘Generate’ is Towner’s crew of 13 – 19-year to get involved in a range of creative activities. This half term, Towner’s ‘Generate’ crew will be taking their favourite workshops out to the community – and it’s all completely free.

Budding artists will be able to join in the free community workshops in half term, creating a collaborative glow in the dark tree sculpture on Thursday at The Archery or a lifesize Manga and cartoon characters on Friday at Hampden Park Community Centre.

A spokesperson for Eastb0urne Borough Council said, “Generate’ is all about young people and what they would like to see happening at Towner.

“They get the chance to get involved with Street art, Fashion, Graffiti, Arts Awards, video and other mediums, as well as having access to IPads, Photoshop and Audio, Film and Animation Technology. In addition visitors get to socialise with other keen artists.

Generate is bringing these excellent art workshops out to the community so others can get involved.

Following the sessions, the artwork will be proudly displayed in empty shop windows in Eastbourne and this due to the support from the Spruce Up Squad from local group Eastbourne Can, and funding from Eastbourne Youth Partnership.

The workshops take place on Thursday 21 February at The Archery and on Friday 22 February at Hampden Park Community Centre, both sessions from 11.30am to 3pm.
