Tara gets the top tiara as queen of town's carnival

HAILSHAM'S very own Carnival Queen and princesses have been crowned. Tara Morris, 23, pipped 10 other competitors for the most regal role, with Kelly Elliot, 14, and Jessie Hammond, 13, selected as the princesses.

The 'coronation' took place at the Hailsham Pavilion at a fundraising night for the Lark in the Park Charitable Trust, a local charity for children with special needs and disabilities.

The new Carnival Queen was presented with a cheque for 200, a sash and a bouquet of flowers, while the princesses also received a sash and flowers, and cheques for 100 apiece.

The judges included former town mayor Nick Ellwood and Denise Field, who donated the tiaras worn by the queen and princesses.

The evening of entertainment also included appearances from the Sue Wood Dancers, the Sea Gypsies and singer David Connolly.

The new 'royal court' has an exciting year ahead, representing Lark in the Park and Hailsham at this summer's carnival and numerous other events.

Hailsham Carnival takes place on Saturday, June 27. The parade will start at 2pm and the carnival fun will be on the Maurice Thornton Playing Field.

Anyone who wants to get involved in the carnival, by offering help on the day, being part of the procession or having a stall, should visit the charity's website www.larkintheparkcharity.org.uk or call Steve Reynolds on 417118.
