Support for wind farm campaigners

The controversial wind farm planned for land in Polegate has plenty of support according to Friends of the Earth campaigners.

The campaigners, who are calling the group Yes to Polegate Wind Farm, aim to show there is backing for the five wind turbines proposed at Shepham Lane.

A planning application has been lodged with Wealden District Council and a decision on the turbines, which will stand taller than Big Ben, is due in the summer.

The wind farm supporters were out in Polegate on Saturday (pictured) and shoppers were asked to sign letters of support.

Karen Stewart, member of the campaign group, said, “We believe this wind farm is good news for Polegate.

“It will produce electricity from the wind around us and could save up to 14,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year.

“Renewable energy projects like this make good economic and environmental sense. While some residents raised concerns, about 80 per cent gave it the thumbs up.”

The wind farm has received much opposition from residents with hundreds raising their concerns with the council.

The developer proposing to build the turbines, Galliford Try Renewables, recently produced an information booklet about the turbines which aimed to address the concerns raised by the residents.

Supporters of the scheme urge people to find out more about their campaign by visiting www.yestopolegatewindfarm.wordpress.com.
