Students show how it's spelled
TALENTED pupils at Seaford Head Community College have whizzed through the local heat of a spelling competition to make it through to the semi-finals.
The team took part in The Times Spelling Bee at Brighton Odeon and competed against four teams from local schools.
The SHCC team consisted of three players and a reserve – Sam Kelly, Kirsty Tuite and Myles Townsend, with Janet Lalla-Hamblin as reserve, all 11 to 12 years old.
The team showed off their skill by successfully spelling words such as aristocracy and consumption.
Jon Purdey, a teacher at Seaford Head Community College, said, "This is a fantastic achievement and all the hard work paid off. They were a credit to themselves and the school."
In second place was Warden Park School from Haywards Heath, with Bognor Regis Community College coming third.
SHCC will go forward to The Times Spelling Bee semi-finals later this month.
The ten winning semi-finalists will then travel to London to compete in the Grand Final at the Odeon West End, Leicester Square, on June 23.
