Stagecoach buys Cavendish

STAGECOACH, the national bus operator which took over Eastbourne Buses in a multi- million pound deal last month, announced yesterday (Thursday) it had bought part of Cavendish-Renown.

The national bus operator acquired the business of Cavendish Motor Services Ltd for an undisclosed sum. Renown Coaches Ltd which is based in Bexhill will continue trading.

Rumours that Cavendish, the main competitor of Eastbourne Buses, was being sold were confirmed yesterday lunchtime as the Herald went to press.

A Stagecoach spokesperson said, "Cavendish operates 28 buses from its depot at Polegate and has 65 employees. It will become part of our East Kent and East Sussex company led by managing director Phil Medlicott.

"We would like to welcome Cavendish staff to Stagecoach. "We look forward to improving services for our customers in the area and attracting more people to greener, smarter bus travel.

"Return, day, week and period tickets for both Cavendish and our recently acquired Eastbourne Buses services will be interchangeable to give our passengers an immediate benefit."
