Staff from a jewellers in Eastbourne have started collecting bras to support Breakthrough Breast Cancer’s Think Pink campaign.
Ladies from Inspired by Brufords in Eastbourne Arndale Centre will be collecting the bras throughout October.
They are urging local ladies to donate their unwanted bras and for each one the jewellers receives a donation of £2 will be made to the breast cancer charity.
And to top it off, Inspired will also be donating the bras to Oxfam’s social enterprise in Senegal called Frip Ethique. Most of the workers are women, who sort and sell clothes donated to Oxfam – including bras – to local market traders.
The Oxfam project aims to make sure donations make the most money possible and enable people to earn a living.
British bras are also seriously sought after in Senegal, as few businesses have the complex technology needed to make good quality bras.
Karen Wilton, from Inspired, said, “It is a double whammy for charities.
“We wanted to do something which was a bit different and a bit of fun.”
Customers have also been given an incentive to get involved and donate their bras, because everyone who takes part will be entered in to a prize draw. At the end of the month a lucky participant will win a bracelet.
Pandora are also running a promotion this month which will see the company donate 15 per cent of its profits to the cancer charity.
