ST WILFRID’S Hospice is looking for more people to sign up for a pyjama -themed fundraiser taking place this weekend.

The Eastbourne-based charity has organised a sponsored 10k walk or run for Saturday and wants locals to get into the spirit of things by joining in, decked out in their jim jams.

Pyjamas are not compulsory, but encouraged, and people can register in advance online at www.stwhospice.org or by calling Jenna on 01323 637871.

Alternatively, people can sign up on the day from 5pm at Eastbourne College in Old Wish Road, where the walk starts an hour later.

Entry costs £10 and the charity asks that anyone taking part tries to raise at least £25 in sponsorship.

Earlier this year, St Wilfrid’s launched a campaign to generate £5.3million over the next two years to help fund its attempt to revolutionise end of life care in Eastbourne.

A new purpose-built headquarters is well on the way to being finished and, once open, will double the amount of bed space available to cancer sufferers locally.

An anonymous art auction is taking place next month and the hospice has a host of fundraisers planned to help it hit its target – with the jim jam walk kicking things off on Saturday.

Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on leads.

Charlotte Nuckhir, head of community engagement at St Wilfrid’s Hospice, said, “We hope to beat last year’s number of entrants and funds raised.

“Jim Jam is one of the highlights of our year and gives the local community the chance to support their local hospice, while having fun and keeping fit. We’re really looking forward to a great night and thank Eastbourne College and the Langham Hotel for their support.”
