Seafront closures for new Bob Hoskins film
PARTS of Eastbourne seafront will be closed next week and traffic diverted as filming for the new Bob Hoskins film begins.
The road outside the Langham Hotel will be closed on Monday, August 17 with a diversion going along Beach Road and back onto the seafront by the Travelodge from 11am to 3pm.
In addition, the lower prom to the west of Eastbourne Pier will be closed while filming takes place between 4-8pm.
Bob Hoskins, Miranda Richardson, Rosamund Pike, Sally Hawkins, Geraldine James and Jamie Winstone star in the film Dagenham Girls, which is set in the 1960s.
The Langham Hotel will also feature in the film. Scenes being filmed on Monday include shots of a motorcyclist travelling at speed along Royal Parade, who will then dismount and run up the steps of the Langham Hotel.
The film tells the story of Rita, a feisty factory worker who inadvertently challenges one of the biggest corporations in the world. It has been written by William Ivory and will be directed by Nigel Cole, who also worked on Calendar Girls.
Working in extremely poor conditions and for long arduous hours, the women at the Ford Dagenham plant finally down tools in 1968 when they are reclassified as 'unskilled'.
The industrial action ultimately led to the Equal Pay Act.
