SEAFORD: New library plan unveiled

PROPOSALS for a multi-million pound development in Seaford have been put forward.
The planning application, submitted by East Sussex County Council, includes a new library, day care centre and supported living flats for adults with learning difficulties.
The plans include demolishing the existing library for the new build at Warwick House in Sutton Park Road and a temporary library at the Elm Court site in Blatchington Road.
If the £6 million scheme goes ahead it will see facilities relocated from Homefield Place, a county adult social care facility.
The new day centre for older people is set to specialise in giving support to people with dementia and the physically frail and offering important services to carers.
A spokesman for East Sussex County Council said once the day service had moved to Warwick House a report would be submitted by Adult Social Care regarding the future of Homefield Place.
Councillor Tony Freebody, lead member for Community Services, said, “I’m delighted that we have now submitted our applications.
“If all goes to plan, people in the Seaford area will be getting a brand new library thanks to this multi-million pound investment by the County Council.
“We will be able to offer local people their library services in a wonderful building that will be accessible to all.
“This is another example of our continuing investment in libraries across East Sussex.”
A number of drop-in sessions were held for the public to attend back in August to find out more about the scheme.

Seaford MP Norman Baker, who is
patron of the Friends of Seaford Library added, “I’m delighted this is finally going ahead, I’m particularly pleased given the difficult economic circumstances local government finds itself in.
“It’s been a long campaign I’ve been involved in, along with many others. It’s great to see it come to fruition.
“Clearly the adult social care element of the plan is not as clear cut and I will be looking into it in more detail to find out what this means.”
The scheme is due to be considered by the county council’s planning authority at the end of this month.
Subject to planning, the council is hoping to open the new library and adult social care development by the end of 2013.

How about East Sussex County Council give now some life line to the residents of Sovereign Harbour....It is about about time ESCC to look seriously in helping the residents of Sovereign Harbour by providing them with a Community Library to be located in ASDA..... I agree our MP and the present elected County Councillor do not live in Sovereign Harbour but do they need to live in our mist in order to secure a Community Library in Sovereign Harbour ??? Come on ESCC... Show us you realy care!!!.... Sam Sweiry in the North Harbour.
