Seaford murder trial opens
THE MURDER trial into the death of Seaford waiter Ahmed Remon Hayder opened yesterday (Tuesday) at Lewes Crown Court.
Shahadat Mollah Sohag is accused of killing the 27-year-old, pictured right, after his body was found in his Sutton Park Road home earlier this year.
Ahmed, known as Ray, was found dead in the flat he lived in with family members, on February 1, after blood was spotted dripping into the architects' office below.
He had been running the family business, the Moon of India restaurant, while his parents were away in Bangladesh.
Ahmed, described as being a sociable and lovable person by his family following his death, had suffered serious head injuries.
The court heard that the injuries were caused by two weapons likely to be a large knife or chopper and the other a blunt instrument.
At first he tried to defend himself and escape but was overpowered in a violent struggle and received horrific injuries to his head and his face, the court was heard.
Mohammed Anhar, 33, of East London, has already pleaded guilty to both murder and aggravated burglary and will be sentenced at the conclusion of the trial.
Twenty-one-year-old Sohag, of no fixed address, denies both charges.
The trial is likely to last 10 days.
