Sea search ongoing for kayaker

A MAJOR sea rescue is currently underway off the coast of Pevensey Bay.

Coastguards, lifeboat crews and the coastguard helicopter have been searching the area for several hours after a red kayak was washed ashore on the beach at 8.30am this morning (Saturday).

Officials say the kayak is an expensive model fitted out with fishing equipment and fear its occupant may have fallen into the water.

Orange fluorescent trousers and a kayak paddle have also been found in the water.
