Scouts celebrate their 80th anniversary with a show
A Scouts group in Eastbourne has celebrated its 80th anniversary.
The youngsters from the 23rd Eastbourne Scouts put on a show for their proud friends and family to mark the occasion.
It took place on January 23 at All Soul’s Church .
Zoe Evans, one of the leaders, said, “The show was a light hearted look back on the history of scouting.
“The Scouts used a time machine to travel back in time to key events in history.”
Zoe explained they acted out a range of historically important events in the show including the Battle of Hastings, the first camp on Brownsea Island, Sea Scouts, the introduction of Cub Scouts, the role of Scouts in World War 1, the start of the 23rd Scout Group, the introduction of Beaver Scouts and finally the introduction of girls to scouting.
Scout leaders and parents joined the celebrations and Mayor of Eastbourne Cllr Mike Thompson, who was once a Scout himself, also attended.
Zoe said the event was a great success and she added, “All the roles were played by the children in all sections and everyone had a thoroughly enjoyable time.” The evening raised a total of £370.
The money raised will help to pay for a shelter for the Scouts at Bushy Wood camp used by the scouts in Arlington, near Hailsham.
