A junior school has seen its Ofsted rating improve following a recent inspection.

Parkland in Brassey Avenue had previously been ranked only satisfactory in terms of overall effectiveness by the education watchdog.

However, having impressed Ofsted officials during a visit in late September the school has seen its ranking ride to good.

That leaves it just one score away from being labelled outstanding. The report says the school missed out on the top mark because the proportion of outstanding teaching was not yet high enough to ‘ensure all pupils make rapid and sustained progress’.

There was though plenty of praise for Parkland.

Among the positive findings, Ofsted highlighted the good standard of behaviour and how safe the youngsters felt while at school.

Teaching was deemed good, with outstanding practice across the school, while marking was also considered a strength.

Pupils were also congratulated for taking responsibility for their own learning – much to the delight of the school.

The chairman of governors, Samanatha Hume, said, “We are immensely proud of the school’s achievement and the recognition of this by OFSTED.

“It is always a pleasure coming in to the school as there is a great atmosphere and sense of community.

“The team strives to ensure all of our children have access to the support and resources they require and this is reflected in the progress they make.”
