Rower Andrew shows off gold medal at quiz
LONDON 2012 Olympic medallist Andrew Triggs -Hodge stopped off in East Dean last week after his games success.
Andrew, who won a gold medal in the recent games, made a surprise appearance at the Relate Quiz Night held last Friday in the Village Hall.
He bought with him his Gold Medal won in the Men’s Rowing Fours at the Eton Dorney course.
With Alex Gregory, Pete Reed and Tom James, the foursome lead their race from start to finish beating, particularly, Australia in the thrilling final to become Olympic Champions.
During the interval at the quiz, organised by Jackie Florey, the audience of more than 130 peoples, viewed the race on a big HD screen and then the medal presentation and subsequent TV interview with Sir Steve Redgrave and John Inverdale.
At the end of the quiz evening there was a short question and answer session, Andrew showed his Gold Medal to everyone as they were leaving including his Gold Medal won at the Beijing Olympics four years previous, for which he was awarded an MBE in the 2009 New Year’s Honours List.
The following day, Andrew, who was stroke for Oxford University when they won the 2005 Boat Race, returned to the Village Hall to meet Ron Laws, the chairman of the Village Hall trustees, and then he went on to visit the iconic Belle Tout Lighthouse.
On Sunday, he and his wife Eeke, a former international rower herself representing Holland, then headed off to his home town of Hebden in North Yorkshire for an official welcome home ceremony and celebration.
