WAR MEMORIES are the focus of one blind Seaford resident’s latest book. Ronald Blaber has drawn on some of his own life experiences to write ‘On the Outside Looking In’.

The 91-year-old’s second book, recently published, is set in the 1800s through to 1946 in the east end of London. It focuses on two families and how they were affected by the war.

Mr Blaber said, “It’s really about love and war, having a roof over your head. I remember having a kit bag over my back at 16, I can remember so many times.”

The nonagenarian spent his younger years in the Royal Naval Reserve and finished as a petty officer gunner.

His first book ‘A Knight on his Bike and the Princess in the Tower’ also draws on his own memories and is a love story.

Mr Blaber, who has spent much of his time penning poetry, said of his love of writing, “I live on my own in a flat and you can’t look at four walls. I’ve always had a good memory and I sit down and put it all together. Once you start writing you live every day of it.”

Royalties from the book will go to Blind Veterans UK St Dunstans.
