Road resurfacing complete as part of £30 million work

Road resurfacing at Pevensey Levels

Work to reconstruct Wartling Road in the Pevensey Levels has been completed as part of East Sussex County Council’s ongoing road resurfacing programme.

The road had to be closed for six weeks during the work, between the junction of Horsewalk and Rickney Lane.

The council’s highways team brought in specialist sub-contractors to ‘re-use’ the existing tarmac in the reconstruction of the road.

This re-use of materials is cheaper, more environmentally friendly and means the work can be completed more quickly.

Councillor Carl Maynard, lead cabinet member for Transport and Environment, said, “Over the last two and a half years we’ve invested more than £30 million in a programme of resurfacing works to repair some of the worst affected roads across the county.

“The newly reconstructed road across the Levels looks great despite the recent weather conditions.

“We appreciate that closing roads during resurfacing and reconstruction is disruptive, and we work hard to minimise this disruption, but hopefully the people who use Wartling Road will be satisfied with the new road surface that will last for many years to come.”

East Sussex County Council would like to thank residents and businesses for their patience during these works.
