Rhos Male Voice Choir coming to Seaford
A POPULAR choir that has travelled across the world to entertain the crowds will be coming to Seaford next month to support a fundraising event.
The Rhos Male Voice Choir, which was formed in 1891 and has won numerous accolades, will be taking part in a concert at St Leonard's Church in Seaford on April 17.
The evening will be raising funds for St Andrew's Church in Bishopstone to keep the church – which at 1300 years old is the oldest church in Sussex – maintained.
Jim Taylor, honorary treasurer of St Andrew's Church, was once a member of the Rhos Male Voice Choir when he lived in the village of Chirkbank in Shropshire.
He said, "We toured in various places including the United States and France and also sang in the Royal Albert Hall.
"It was tremendous for me to be part of the choir as I hadn't sung in a male voice choir myself but my father was the pianist for Wolverhampton Orpheus Male Choir."
Mr Taylor's interest in choirs grew after visiting numerous concerts with his dad and he was keen to join the Rhos Male Voice Choir when the opportunity arose.
Mr Taylor, who moved back to Sussex four year ago and lives in Seaford, contacted the choir to see if they would be happy to travel to the Sussex coast to support the fundraiser and is keen to raise as much funds as possible for the church.
As well as the choir, a local couple will also be taking part in light organ pieces, during different stages of the evening which starts at 7.30pm.
Tickets bought in advance cost 10 and can be purchased from Linda's Stores at Bishopstone Railway Station, Living Words in Place Lane, Seaford or Newberry Estates in Church Street, Seaford.
Tickets can be bought on the door for 12.
