Real time bus info will not be repaired

Electronic information boards which tell people when to expect buses in Eastbourne are likely to be out of order for up to two years.

The real time information system has not been working since breaking down before Christmas and East Sussex County Council revealed this week it would not be getting fixed anytime soon.

A spokesperson said, “The real time information system used in Eastbourne is based on old technology and is prone to breakdown. It is also increasingly expensive to maintain.

“As a result, both the council and Stagecoach are concentrating our efforts and resources on the initiative to upgrade the Real Time system in East Sussex. The council was successful in a bid to the government’s Local Sustainable Transport Fund to upgrade the Real Time system with modern technology and we will be working with bus companies to introduce the upgraded Real Time system in Eastbourne and across the whole of East Sussex. We are in the early stages of this process, but we currently envisage that the new Real Time system will be introduced within the next two years.”
