Ramblers, riders and cyclists celebrate footpath
Around 50 walkers, horse riders and cyclists gathered to celebrate the e-opening of a bridleway and footpath.
The Ramblers' Association, which organised the walk, had long campaigned for the popular walking route, which runs from the road connecting Berwick and Dicker to Sessingham Farm, to be cleared and reopened.
And in November it won its long battle after East Sussex County Council came to an agreement with the landowner.
The walk involved members of the Hailsham Ramblers' Group as well as local riding and cycling groups.
Walkers were led on a tour of around six miles incorporating the new route and other paths in the area that have recently been re-opened.
The event was part of the Ramblers' Association's festival of winter walks, which took place over the Christmas and New Year period.
Association spokesman Chris Smith said, "The aim of the walk was to show people the pathways that we have managed to get re-opened through our campaigning.
"I'm delighted we have managed to get this footpath re-opened.
"But there are still an awful lot of footpaths that are being illegally obstructed by landowners who are growing crops over them and it would be nice to see the county council act on those as well, particularly locally in Selmeston and Hellingly."
