Raising awareness of the early onset diabetes in kids

Tomorrow (Wednesday Novembeer 14) is World Diabetes Day and experts at the DGH are hoping to use the occasion to raises awareness of the condition amid an increase

in the number of children with undiagnosed diabetes being admitted to hospital with life-threatening symptoms of the disease.

Specialists from East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust will spend the day in the Arndale Centre giving information about diabetes and telling people about the symptoms which they should look out for.

Dr P De Silva, consultant paediatrician at the Trust, said hoped people would pop by the stand to find out more. He said, “By spending the day in the Arndale, we’re hoping to make people more aware of diabetes and the symptoms. For both children and adults these are increased thirst, increased need to urinate, weight loss, lethargy, and also sudden onset bed-wetting.”
