Railway cash
Seaford MP Norman Baker has welcomed a decision to award a grant of £2.8million to the Bluebell Railway's Operation Undercover construction project.
The scheme will deliver two new buildings near to the Bluebell headquarters at Sheffield Park, the restoration of a range of historic platform buildings and their extension to include a museum.
The project will also provide a new locomotive servicing facility built to modern standards and new toilet facilities for the 180,000 visitors the railway plays host to every year.
Mr Baker, who is also the MP for Lewes in which Sheffield Park station sits, said, "I am delighted to hear about the Bluebell Railway's success in obtaining funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
"The Operation Undercover team has invested a huge amount of time and time and effort in this project over the last six years and it is wonderful to see their efforts being rewarded with such a generous grant.
"The Bluebell Railway is a much loved attraction and I hope this funding will ensure that the railway has the support it needs to preserve and display its impressive collections in an informative and enjoyable way for its many visitors."
