Power cut hits 500 homes

A POWER cut plunged 500 Willingdon households into darkness on Thursday night (January 8).

EDF Energy said electricity supplies were cut at 8.44pm so engineers could fix a fault on an underground cable.

A spokesman for the firm said, "Approximately 50 customers in the Willingdon area experienced problems with their power supplies because of a localised, low-voltage fault on an underground cable.

"Engineers went to the area and, in order to work as quickly and as safely as possible on the problem, interrupted supplies at 8.44pm.

"Many of those affected would have experienced an interruption for less than a minute. However, 500 customers were without power for 15 minutes.

"We appreciate how difficult it can be to lose power, especially at this time of year, and apologise for this incident."
