Police arrest 18-year-old after assault on train

A MAN has been arrested after a train conductor was assaulted.

The conductor was attacked onboard a train between Pevensey and Westham and Hampden Park stations in March.

Following a public appeal for information, several people came forward with information which led to police being able to identify the offender.

The man, an 18-year-old from St Leonards-on-Sea, came forward to police and was arrested earlier this month. He has since been bailed to return on August 31.

The 36-year-old victim from Hove was put in a head lock following a dispute about change for a ticket.

The incident took place at around 12.50pm on Wednesday March 17.

PC Paul Gardner, the investigating officer, said, "This was a violent attack on a man who was simply trying to do his job and who should have been able to carry out his duty without fear of violence.

"As a result of our appeal a number of people came forward with information and I'd like to extend my thanks to them."

There were several people in the carriage at the time and anyone who saw the incident is asked to call BTP on 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference B3 of 06/04/2010.
