Police witness appeal follows seafront stabbing

DETECTIVES are appealing for witnesses after a 23-year-old man was stabbed outside Eastbourne Pier in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The man was found lying on the ground with stab wounds and other injuries at 3am.

Police officers and ambulance crews rushed to the scene and the man was taken to Eastbourne District General Hospital where he was treated and later discharged.

Officers later carried out house-to-house enquiries and quizzed local residents about the incident.

Two men, a 27-year-old from Surrey, and a 26-year-old from Eastbourne, were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. They were questioned and have been released on bail until Thursday November 1.

Detective Constable John Steven from Eastbourne CID said, “We are trying to establish the circumstances that led up to this assault.

“We are appealing to anyone who was in the area between Elms Avenue and Grand Parade and witnessed the assault to get in touch.”
