Police urge vigilance after burglary rise
As the nights draw in residents in Seaford are being urged to secure their properties and look out for their neighbours after a spate of burglaries in the town.
Five such crimes have been reported this month and in two incidents cash and jewellery worth thousands of pounds were stolen. A property in Carlton Road was targeted between 9am and 6.50pm on October 5 when an untidy search took place before jewellery, cash and a set of car keys were swiped.
In Salisbury road £500 cash, jewellery and a set of keys were stolen sometime between 6pm on October 7 and 11am on October 11. A back door at a home in Grosvenor Road was forced between October 6 and 11am on October 10 but nothing taken. It was reported on October 14 that an address in Headland Avenue was targeted and it is believed that jewellery was taken. On October 19 a laptop, play station 3, a game and £170 in cash was taken from a property in Sutton Drove. The burglaries are thought to have taken place during daylight.
Acting Seaford Sergeant Chris Wright, said, “In all of these cases it’s not a case where people have been lapse with security. I would like to ask the community to remain vigilante and not hesitate to report any suspicious activity in their neighbourhood. Where entry has been forced there would be a considerable amount of noise so someone is going to hear it.
“I would remind people to be cautious and when there property is unattended to make sure windows and doors are secure and burglary alarms are set where applicable. Where some people may feel vulnerable in light of the darker afternoons I would ask people to look out for each other even more.”
