Police issue warning after burglary spate

A spate of burglaries has prompted Sussex Police to warn people in Seaford to take extra care to keep their homes secure.
Detectives are linking a series of break-ins over the past four months. Since November a total of 20 burglaries have been reported at houses and bungalows in and around the town.
The similarities in methods used to break in have led police to believe one person or one group is responsible for the crimes.
Most of the burglaries have taken place during the day and police said in the majority, force had been used on doors and windows to get in.
Jewellery, cash and electrical items were stolen.
The most recent offence was last week in Hartfield Road.
As a result police are reminding local residents about the importance of locking all doors and windows and keeping an eye on neighbours’ properties.
Detective constable David Styles of the East Sussex Priority Crime Team said, “If you spot any suspicious activity call 999 right away.
“If you have any suspicions as to who the offender or offenders might be, or if you have any further information, please call me via 101 in confidence.
“Alternatively you can call independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
“Because of the similarities in methods used to gain entry we are considering the possibility that one person or one group may be responsible.
“Police patrols are paying extra attention to the areas concerned, PCSOs are talking to residents, and we are actively investigating each offence, but you can help by being security aware and reporting suspicions.”
