Police investigate reports of man being dragged into a van against his will in Eastbourne

POLICE in Eastbourne are tonight investigating reports that a man was dragged into a van against his will close to the seafront this afternoon.

A witness reports seeing the man being pulled into the van against his will in Jevington Gardens. The incident apparently happened at 2.50pm this afternoon.

Police are currently investigating the report, but as yet have been unable to trace the van described to officers.

The vehicle is described as a cream or white van, similar to a refuse collection vehicle, with a black cage at the rear. There was rubbish in the back, including a cream sofa and rust around the wheel arches of the van.

Detective Inspector Ian Williams of East Sussex CID said: “We have very limited information regarding this report at this stage and would like to hear from anyone who has seen a vehicle matching the description or saw or heard anything in the Jevington Gardens area at 2.50pm.

“We are working to establish the full circumstances of the incident and ensure the victim in the report is found.”

Anyone with information about this report, or anyone who sees a vehicle matching the description, is asked to contact Sussex Police on 101
