Plans for 700 new homes in Hailsham
Residents in Hailsham are being urged to have their say as plans for hundreds of homes in the town are unveiled this week.
The potential development of up to 700 dwellings has been earmarked for land south of New Road and east of Park Road and a revised master plan will be on show for the public to view.
The exhibition comes following Wealden District Council’s (WDC) core strategy which identified land in north Hailsham as an area to create homes.
The document explains how there is scope for much-needed redevelopment in Hailsham and to meet the community and housing needs WDC identified two potential sites to deliver 1,300 homes.
These have been broken into two areas in the core strategy – around 600 homes on land north of Vicarage Lane – and 700 homes in the Hellingly area.
Nick Guildford, associate director of planning consultants and master planners Terence O’Rourke Ltd, said the scheme was still in its early stages.
He added, “We’re looking forward to meeting people and hearing their thoughts about how the site could best come forward in order to contribute towards the council’s requirement for development in North Hailsham, as identified within their Core Strategy.”
A significant proportion of the homes provided will be designated for affordable housing provision and there is the potential for a new primary school and the creation of jobs during both the construction phase and afterwards.
A spokesman for land promoters The Fairfield Partnership – who own the land in question – said no planning application had been submitted yet but it is hoped this would happen by early autumn.
The exhibition takes place on Friday and Saturday (July 13 and 14).
On the Friday it will be held between 3pm and 8pm at Emmanuel Church Hall in Hawkswood Road
On the Saturday the exhibition will run between 10am and 1pm at Hellingly Village Hall in North Street.
