Planning councillors throw out application

Controversial plans to develop a piece of land off Hartfield Road have been thrown out by town planners.

Developers have had a lengthy battle with Eastbourne Borough Council and planning inspectors over bids to build on the site at the rear of 15 Hartfield Road.

And the latest application to build two three-bedroom homes with off-street parking was refused on Tuesday evening – at an Eastbourne Borough Council planning meeting at the Town Hall – after councillors were told it would be an over development of the site and reduce the openness between existing properties in the area.

Planning officer Suzanne West said, “The development would cause harm to the character and appearance of the conservation area and to the living conditions of adjacent prospective occupiers.”
