Terminus Road could become a stylish piazza from the railway station to the seafront if a new campaign gets the support it needs.

Businesses and shops have already pledged their support for the plan, which is the brainchild of iloveeastbourne.org, a group of business people, which is hoping Eastbourne Borough Council, East Sussex County Council and Stagecoach will now back the plan.

A spokesperson for the group said, “We must seize the opportunity and make our whole town centre from the seafront to the railway station one long glorious piazza, free of all traffic.

“There are plenty of roads the traffic can use but Terminus Road should be reserved for pedestrians to enjoy without noise, fumes or fear of being run over.

“Just look at some of the lovely towns in the world that have had the courage to put pedestrians first – they have been transformed and everyone loves them. Eastbourne needs to take this great step however difficult it may be,”

The group is hoping the plans will become a reality in line with the regeneration of the Arndale and town centre.
