Pevensey MP wants nominations for rural oscars

Pevensey and Westham MP Greg Barker is urging people to nominate businesses in the area for an awards scheme dubbed the Rural Oscars.

The eighth annual Countryside Alliance Awards are now open to public nomination.

The MP for Pevesney, Westham and Hankham Greg Barker is urging the local community to get nominating for the awards to show off some of the talent in his constituency.

The Countryside Alliance Awards, nicknamed the Rural Oscars, were born of a need to support and promote rural communities.

They aim to celebrate people going the extra mile to ensure that rural Britain’s food and farming industry, small businesses, traditional skills, forward-thinking enterprises and, most of all, its people, can flourish.

Mr Barker said, “These awards are an excellent way to promote the local businessmen and women who are working hard to keep rural Britain ticking.

“Our local produce is second to none and there are many community heroes and businesses worthy of national recognition, so please get involved and nominate today. Let’s see if we can bring a British title home and tell a positive story about this area.”

The Countryside Alliance Awards have a range of categories which provide scope for all sorts of nominations.

There are a total of five categories which are: the local food award, the post office award, the enterprise award, the butcher award, a start-up award which is new for 2012 and has been introduced for businesses who have been trading less than 18 months.

Businesses who want nomination forms should email awards@countryside-alliance.org with there address and number of forms required. People wanting more information about the awards can call 0207 840 9340.
