Opera returns to Eastbourne Town Hall

IN a few days' time Eastbourne Town Hall will become an opera house for the evening.

Opera will return to Eastbourne after a two year break. AM Rotary decided to take a year off organising the event last year due to concerns how an uncertain economy would affect fundraising.

The event promises to be impressive and tickets for 'Opera at the Town Hall', which takes place on Saturday (March 20) in aid of SASBAH and Chestnut Tree House Children's Hospice and Young Musicians Bursary, are now on sale at the Tourist Information Centre.

Baritone Christopher Maltman, finalist of the Cardiff Singer of the World competition, will be joined by mezzo soprano Louise Armit, who has performed at the Royal Opera House, soprano Jo Appleby, who has performed for the Queen and the Prince of Wales, Baritone Riccardo Simonetti of the Welsh and English National Opera (ENO) and Tenor Andrew Rees.

Andrew was ENO principal tenor from 2004 to 2006. He has recently been invited back to ENO to perform in Carmen and Aida.

Andrew has taken lead roles in New Zealand, Germany, Switzerland, Portugal and Finland.

The event Tickets cost 25 and include a glass of wine and canapes.

Tickets are available from the Tourist Information Centre, Rotary 01323 722439, Reid and Dean 01323 412550 and St Andrew's School.
