Oh deer! Another sighting...

Another deer has been spotted in Seaford, just weeks after one of the animals was seen swimming in the sea.

Trevor Weeks, head of East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service, said he had received several reports that a deer, thought to be a Muntjac, had been seen running down roads and jumping between residents' back gardens.

Trevor, who first received the calls at the beginning of last week, said, "We thought it had disappeared but now another report has come in. It's still around and it basically appears to be living in people's back gardens. It's certainly odd, there are not many around and they're not very native."

The Gazette recently reported the fate of another Muntjac deer who had been spotted walking along Seaford beach and going for a dip in the sea.

On this occasion the deer ended up leaping 25ft into a resident's courtyard and sadly later died.

Trevor said a number of the deer, who are thought to come from the Downs, have been seen in the cemetery in Eastbourne but it is the first time he has dealt with one in Seaford, apart from the incident last month.

He added, "This is a healthy animal and there isn't anything we can do. If someone is concerned for its safety or it becomes injured then they should give us a call on 07815 078234.

"If it is in someone's garden I would ask them not to approach it and the last thing I would want to see is it to be chased out of a garden and for it to go in the road and be hit by a car.

"We're more than happy to advise anyone. If there is a problem then we may have to get a licence to move the deer."
