NHS Trust boss Kim Hodgson steps down

THE CHIEF executive of East Sussex Hospitals Trust is quitting her post. Kim Hodgson, pictured right, will leave the trust after five years on March 31.

She said this week it had been a difficult decision but she wanted to hand over the trust to others.

"There are critical moments for everybody when they evaluate where their life is going," said Ms Hodgson. "I have dedicated 30 fantastic years to the NHS and it's now time to hand over the trust to others.

"It has not been an easy decision. It has been an honour to work with some of the best staff in the NHS who are wholly committed to the care of their patients and the wellbeing of their colleagues. I am so proud of you all."

Irene Dibben, the trust's chairman, said, "On a personal note, I would like to thank Kim and wish her well.

"She has brought her wide experience in operational matters and her clinical background to focus on the change and improvement in the delivery of services that we now see today."

Ms Hodgson joined East Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust in 2005 at a time of difficulty for the trust. She set about reinvigorating the trust, bringing together executives, non executives, clinicians and all other staff to solve problems within the trust at that time.

On Wednesday, hospital bosses announced Darren Grayson had been appointed as the new interim chief executive. He will start on March 22 and take on the role from April 1 until a permanent chief executive is appointed.

Darren is currently the chief executive at NHS Brighton and Hove – the primary care trust responsible for planning and investing in health and healthcare for the community in the Brighton area. He has previously held a number of senior posts having worked in the NHS since 1988.

Mr Grayson said, "This is an exciting opportunity for me and I hope to bring my leadership experience and extensive knowledge of the NHS and healthcare to ensure East Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust continues to deliver high quality services for patients until a permanent chief executive appointment is made."

Irene Dibben, chairman, said, "We are very pleased to have Darren Grayson as our interim chief executive. His experience and leadership will play an important vital role in guiding the trust through a transitional period whilst we appoint a permanent chief executive."
