New entrance bid to cut queues at town’s tip

A NEW entrance has been opened at the town’s tip in attempt to cut queues. Designed by Veolia Environmental Services, it is hoped the new entrance and queuing lane for the facility at St Phillips Avenue will ease traffic at busy times of day and prevent vehicles queuing to avoid disturbing neighbours.

The new entrance was opened on Monday, May 14, and is approximately 50 metres west of the current entrance and will be clearly signposted.

Veolia Environmental Services has also rearranged the site layout.

There will be a dedicated recycling area at the start on the right for paper, glass, card and timber.

To the left there will be containers for waste, metal, electrical and green garden waste. All the new recycling areas will be clearly signposted.

Martin Benson, recycling sites manager for Veolia Environmental Services South Downs, said, “We would like to thank our site users for their continued use of the Eastbourne site.

“With their help, more than 90 per cent of waste received at the site continues to be reused, recycled and recovered and therefore diverted away from depleting local landfill.

“We are hoping with the new entrance system in place that we can go even further and recycle even more than before.”
