New Eastbourne drop-in centre opens

A DROP-IN day centre for homeless and vulnerable people has officially opened its doors in Eastbourne.

The Rebourne Centre in Langney Road is being run by the Salvation Army which has its citadel opposite.

The building, formerly the Forester's Hall, has a comfortable lounge, desks, a kitchen, shower facilities and offices. It is open on a daily basis to homeless people and vulnerable members of the community. Food will be available and it is hoped that in time clients will be able to attend courses and groups which will be run from there.

The Rebourne Centre – named by Eastbourne resident Carol Gilmour – was officially opened by Eastbourne's mayor and mayoress Greg and Clare Szanto on Monday morning.

The mayor said, "The Salvation Army in Eastbourne is quite incredible in helping the vulnerable and homeless and this will be great for the town."

The project was the brainchild of community development worker Pauline Peagam and majors Stuart and Gillian Dicker, who were previously situated at the Eastbourne Citadel.

Current head of the citadel Major David Squirrel said he wanted to thank all those who had supported the Salvation Army in getting the centre up and running.
