New charity's £1m idea

A mother whose daughter died at the age of just 17 of malignant melanoma has a vision to set up a respite hotel in Eastbourne for families of children with life limiting illnesses.

The Rachel's House charity was set up by Jeanette Atkinson after her daughter lost a four year battle against skin cancer.

Eastbourne Mayor Mary Pooley said, "It is always sad when someone loses a loved one but it is even harder when that loss is at a young age.

"I have every admiration for what this family are trying to do and I hope they succeed in their ambition."

The vision is for Rachel's House to offer a gold standard in holiday respite care for families to have some special time together.

The family are looking to raise 1 million to purchase and convert an Eastbourne Victorian property.
