Murder investigation underway in Seaford

A MURDER investigation is underway after the body of a man was found in a Seaford flat this week.

Detectives found the body of the deceased, believed to be a 27-year-old linked to the Moon of India restaurant in Sutton Park Road, on Monday afternoon.

Police were alerted to the scene after blood was seen dripping through a ceiling at Plans Architectural Design, which is situated next to the restaurant.

The body was found in living accommodation above the architect's shop just before 1pm.

A post mortem is yet to be held and the body has not yet been formally identified.

House to house inquiries were continuing yesterday (Tuesday) and CCTV in the area is being examined.

Alleys on either side of the two businesses remained cordoned off yesterday and both police officers and scene of crime officers were at the scene.

Detective Chief Inspector Adam Hibbert, of Sussex Police's Major Crime Branch, who is leading the investigation, said, "This is a tragic incident, which we are now treating as murder.

"I appeal to anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in that area from 11pm on Sunday until we found the body at lunchtime the next day to come forward. We are keen to hear from anyone who feels they can help the investigation.

"The forensic examination of the scene will take some time, as we seek to preserve as much evidence as possible. At this time I cannot say how the man died, but every effort is being made in conducting a thorough investigation."

Councillor Jon Freeman, leader of Seaford Town Council, expressed his shock at the incident and said, "Like everyone else we are shocked at this happening in Seaford town centre, although we do not know the full circumstances at the moment.

"During my time as a councillor to my memory nothing like this has ever happened before.

"As a result of an increase in neighbourhood policing throughout the town centre there has been a reduction in crime."

Seaford mayor Councillor Tracy Willis said it was important not to speculate about the incident before the truth was known and added, "From my point of view, on behalf of the town, I think the town is in shock at the moment about the whole incident.

"I think the police have dealt with it brilliantly so far and I think the communities really need to come together and support each other in what has been an absolute shocking development.

"Seaford is still a very, very low crime area and this is a huge incident for Seaford.

"It's a very sad for Seaford."
