MP welcomes U-turn on fuel duty increase
MOTORISTS in Eastbourne will save around £160 following the Government’s U-turn on a propose increase in fuel duty for the rest of the year.
Local MP Stephen Lloyd, says the decision to cancel the planned increase in August will ease the strain on local wallets – with the £160 being the predicted saving for an average Ford Focus driver.
Mr Lloyd MP said, “This is an encouraging result for the average road user in Eastbourne.
“The Coalition Government recognises that for many people running a car is not an option but an absolute necessity.
“I filled up my car the other day at the Willingdon Road petrol station, and the cost was an eye-watering £72.
“I’ve been lobbying for this for many months now, so I am glad the chancellor George Osborne has decided to delay the fuel duty increase to next year.
“It’s not perfect as, frankly, I’d like to have seen a cut in duty.
“But it does show the Coalition Government recognises the pressure many people are facing in the difficult economic climate.”
