Eastbourne MP Lloyd is calling for greater transparency from those responsible for Langney Shopping Centre.

The local MP also wants to see some financial help for the independent traders within the centre who lost their livelihoods when the roof caved in four days before Christmas.

Mr Lloyd says there is now real frustration from local business and is calling on London & Associated Management Services for a ‘greater sense of urgency’.

Mr Lloyd said, “While we all appreciate the need for safety and are fully supportive of thorough investigations to establish the cause of the collapse, we expect to see a preliminary report on the safety of the remaining roof structure as a matter of urgency.”

The local MP has written to London & Associated Management Services to ask for a meeting to review progress and to examine issues around the publication of the engineers’ reports and any preparatory plans for strengthening of the remaining roof.

He is seeking more transparency on plans to repair the damaged roof and plans for any temporary roofing, and in particular proposals for a phased reopening of the centre.

Mr Lloyd added, “I am also seeking a more sympathetic response from London & Associated Management Services , the company responsible for Langney Shopping Centre, to the requests for a crisis fund to be established for those independent traders whose livelihoods have been so badly affected by the shopping centre closure.”

Stephen Lloyd and Langney Councillor Alan Shuttleworth have been in regular contact with London & Associated Management Services

Cllr Shuttleworth has also been working to help the community.

He has helped the local St Barnabas Church set up a community cafe.

Cllr Shuttleworth said, “Discussions on the siting of a temporary library are also progressing well, but it is essential that Langney residents are kept fully informed on progress.”
