Missing Eastbourne teenager in France with teacher

THE FATHER of Megan Stammers who has fled across the channel with her 30-year-old teacher from Bishop Bell has taken to Twitter in a bid to try and find his daughter.

Police are continuing to work with French authorities to trace the 15-year-old Eastbourne schoolgirl.

They are pleading with Megan Stammers, a pupil of Bishop Bell School in Eastbourne, to return home to her family after heading off to France on Friday with her maths teacher Jeremy Forrest from Ringmer.

The teenager left her home in Walton Close on Friday after failing to turn up to school. The alarm was raised at lunchtime that day.

Her father, Martin Stammers, urged his daughter to get in touch.

On Twitter he wrote, “Have to remain strong for Megs. Can’t dwell in the misery of ‘what ifs’ - we love you sweetheart. Doing all we can.”

Police know that Megan and the man crossed from Dover to Calais at around 9.20am on Friday morning (September 21). They are trying to locate Mr Forest’s black Ford Fiesta, registration GJ08 RJ0.

Sussex Police believe Megan is still in France and they are liaising with French authorities to try to trace her.

Megan is described as 5ft 6in tall, slim build with very long dark brown hair. She was last seen wearing a white vest top and a silver necklace.

Lewes District Commander, Chief Inspector Jason Tingley said, “Megan’s family love her dearly and are all incredibly upset by her disappearance. They want her to come home as soon as possible.

“We need Megan or Jeremy to make contact with us to help us return her safely to her family.”

Anyone who knows Jeremy Forrest or has seen his black Ford Fiesta, GJ08 RJO, is asked to call 101 quoting serial 679 of September 21.
