The record-breaking David Lloyd girls who squeezed themselves in to a Mini have turned down the chance to compete in this year’s series of Britain’s Got Talent.

Twenty-seven women from the gym in Hampden Park first broke world records in November 2011 when they squeezed an impressive 27 people in to a new style Mini, raising £2,000 for Children in Need. .

Then last year, the girls celebrated further success when they were invited on to ITV’s show This Morning to beat their own world record.

Dani Maynard, the organiser, said she was ‘elated’ to have bettered the previous record live on television by one.

Dani and the girls also squeezed 23 girls into an old-style Mini – beating the record by two people.

The ultra-flexible team have been approached by television companies and Dani has been interviewed on radio stations across the world.

Most recently they were asked to take part in Britain’s Got Talent, and while Dani says she would have loved the challenge, the logistics of getting a car on stage proved too difficult.

Dani said, “They kept trying to rejig the stage in London but it was a logistical nightmare and they simply could get the car on there. What I really wanted to do was break a world record at the Royal Variety Show, because as far as I know no-one has ever done that.

“I really don’t think we could get another person in the new Mini but I am fairly sure we would be able to get the 24 in the old Mini. However, I wasn’t prepared to do that just for an audition.”

The Britain’s Got Talent auditions would also clash with another prime time Saturday night show the girls are to appear on. They have recorded I Love My Country for BBC1, which will air at the end of March. The show is hosted by Frank Skinner and Micky Flanagan and contestants had to guess how many girls could squeeze in to the Mini in just one minute.

Dani said it was a wonderful experience. “We were in Pinewood Studios and we had the James Bond stunt team come and see us. They were watching our stunt and were in awe of what we were doing”.

“Important people from Pinewood were getting involved in what we were doing and 400 members of the public turned up to watch us.

“It was a lovely fun day out again. It was awesome.”

While Dani is sad to turn down Britain’s Got Talent she says there are other things in the pipeline, including further television appearances.
