Millie on the mend after kennel cough

A Labrador puppy who touched the hearts of Herald readers is on the road to recovery.
Millie’s plight was highlighted after animal charity campaigners appealed for people to donate cash so she could undergo a special CT scan to find out why she was poorly. Hundreds of pounds flooded in which helped pay for the Red Fox Labrador to have a CT scan at a veterinary hospital. She was found to be suffering with chronic pneumonia and the kennel cough virus, neither of which responded to antibiotics because she had an immune deficiency syndrome.
She has now been prescribed a further antibiotic in the hope it will beat the infection.
Julie Hammond from the charity Labrador Rescue South east and Central, which came to Millie’s aid when she fell seriously ill just weeks into her short life, said, “We would like to say a huge thank you to all of the Eastbourne Herald readers who generously contributed to Millie’s Appeal Fund.
“Due to their kindness, Millie was able to have her much needed CT Scan last week. She spent five days at a specialist referral practice in Bedfordshire where she underwent several tests.
“Millie has had a long journey to recovery and she is by no means at the end of that journey. But without the help of kind hearted people she would not have had the opportunity of a true diagnosis and prognosis.
“We are very grateful to everyone who made that happen. We would also ask that people keep Millie in their prayers and thank them all again.”
Millie, now four months, is believed to have been sold to a family by dog smugglers and was ill with chest problems as soon as she was born.
The family which owned her were unable to afford mounting vets bills and she has been looked after since by foster carers through the Labrador Rescue charity and St Anne’s Veterinary Practice in Willingdon.
