Michael’s back and leading Cafe Church initiative

A FORMER council boss is back in Eastbourne in a new role.
Dr Michael Blanch, who was the chief executive of Eastbourne Borough Council for four years in the early 1990s, has recently returned to take up a post as curate at St Michael and All Angels in Old Town.
He left Eastbourne in 1995 to become chief executive of Bromley Borough Council and later worked within the Falklands Islands government.
After a stint in North Yorkshire he returned to Eastbourne last year and is now behind a new initiative at the church in Willingdon Road called Cafe Church.
“It’s a new informal and fun worship for families and spiritual seekers which has just started,” said Father Mike.
“Our new cafe church is all about sharing hospitality, meeting people and encountering God.
“We will always begin with cakes and drinks and a chance to meet others.
“There will be simple themes for worship, songs, activities for children and also some opportunities for grown ups to talk about the theme.”
Cafe Church runs on the first and third Sundays of each month at 10am for 40 minutes.
It is held in the hall alongside St Michael’s Church and there will also be the usual service in the church at 10am.
At 10.45am Cafe Church will end and there will be an opportunity for people to join the main church for communion.
