THE father of Eastbourne schoolgirl Megan Stammers tonight made an emotional appeal on national television for the 15-year-old to return home,

Exactly a week after the Bishop Bell pupil was boarding a ferry at Dover docks with her 30-year-old maths teacher, Jeremy Forest, Martin Stammers was interviewed by Kirsty Young on the BBC’s Crimewatch programme.

Speaking directly to the camera, Martin said: “Megan, if you are watching this then just pick up the phone. Please. Just ring us. Your mother is in pieces, just let us know you are okay.

“You’re not in trouble, we just want to give you a big hug. We want you home.”

Martin Stammers was speaking just hours after Jim and Julie Forrest attended a press conference held at Sussex Police headquarters in Lewes when they urged their son to get in touch with them.

Speaking on Crimewatch this evenng, Martin Stammers described the past week as “awful” for her family who are very close, along with her grandparents and close friends. “We are devastated, we are in pieces,” he admitted.

He said that the family had chose to use social media in a bid to spread the word about Megan’s disappearance in the hope that it might prompt someone to come forward with information. He said this had resulted in some interested pieces of information being brought to the police’s attention.

However, detectives are no nearer to finding the couple who are believed to be in France and which has prompted Sussex Police to issue a European arrest warrant for Mr Forrest.

Martin Stammers added: “If anyone knows anything, it could be the slightest detail, it does not matter, then please get in touch with police.”
